What I’m watching:
Rather than focusing on the fact that I binged the entire series 3 of Marcella on the weekend, in one day, I thought I’d share what I’m watching for inspiration lately. Basically, it’s all things ‘90s, specifically catwalk fashion shows.
I know that Instagram creators - creators in general, really - are indulging in a major ‘90s moment right now, and it makes total sense after the year we’ve had. Aside from the fact that we’ve felt caged up inside which is making us ultimately look backwards, I think the reason we’re feeling the ‘90s is because of the excess and potential of that era. The ‘90s has always been portrayed as an era of innovation, creativity and strength, and those themes really showed up in the fashion and makeup of the time.
Gianni Versace was probably the most talked-about designer of the decade, eyebrows were thick and fierce and bronzer went with everything. I think I’m going to channel my obsession into some makeup looks, like this gorgeous shot of one of my fave supermodels, Christy Turlington. What I’m listening to:
I have to admit, I really enjoyed editing this week’s episode of BeautyMe with Hanahana Beauty founder Abena Boamah-Acheampong. This is the third episode from my Beauty X Wellness series and in it we talk a lot about intention. Intentional beauty, intentional selfcare and just being intentional about how we choose to show up in the world, and how we react to what happens. I wanted to share it here because I feel like Abena’s energy is such a positive boost. I hope you love it! It airs tomorrow at 7am in the UK, anywhere you love to listen to podcasts.
Also: if you are a diehard beauty podcast fan then you must listen to the latest episode of Naked Beauty! Host Brooke Devard interviews Jessica Matlin and Jennifer Goldstein of Fat Mascara, an award-winning pod. Brooke asks them to dish on cosmetic procedures and interviewing Kim Kardashian. You can listen here
What I’m up to:
Guys, I have serious wanderlust; like I am daydreaming for hours a day. It’s not that I don’t love my environment, it’s just that it hasn’t changed for a while. I’m guessing you’re feeling the same?
If you want some daydreaming company, see below for my top 3 destinations that I’m hoping to see soon.
#1: Tel Aviv, Israel. This was the place that we had planned on visiting last September. Daniel and I have always been attracted to places that have that whole city + beach vibe and after watching an Anthony Bourdain show we were so intrigued by the beauty of Tel Aviv. For us it seems to have the perfect blend of amazing food (all the falafel!), lots of walking, tons of sun and a serious dose of chill.
#2: Hawaii. For me, this is the place I have imagined as my real home from home, somewhere that we could ‘settle down’, if that’s really still a thing. Anyone who knows me, knows that I love the ocean and for years I have been transfixed by the beauty of Hawaii in general. I definitely need to do the research and avoid the tourist traps so if you’ve been, let me know! I would totally book a load of surfing lessons too; we did them for our honeymoon and it was taxing and amazing. I want to see black sand beaches, watch the sunrise over Maui and see the beauty of the so-called Garden Isle, Kauai.
#3: Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have been thinking about a trip to Buenos Aires for years. It’s always been about the architecture and history for me; from the stunning Librería El Ateneo Grand Splendid, seen in the image above, to La Casa Rosada (the Pink House), the main government building of the city to the gardens and so much more. I’m guessing the food will be pretty good too.
